City crews have been working hard on a few projects early this summer.  They kicked off its 2018-19 hydrant replacement campaign by replacing a hydrant at State and Green Street that has been inoperable for 2 years.

They also uncovered and added rip-rap to a couple of culverts at John Street and Van Buren and E Richardson & Walnut! These should definitely help keep them open and deter flooding the intersections! #farmercityforward”

Piatt Tran offers Seniors bus trips

Piatt Tran offers Farmer City Seniors a bus for day trips and we have several that take advantage of this. If you get bored or want to meet new people or get re-acquainted with old  friends or just want to get out of the house once in a while come to Outreach and check out the list of trips that are planned, or call 309-928-9400 and Sharon can tell you about them over the phone.  These trips are a lot of fun and you get to see and do many things. A favorite is going to Arthur to Beachey’s and of course no trip to Arthur is complete without eating at Yoder’s.

The cost of the trip is $5.00 to ride the bus. The bus leaves at 9:00 am or 9:30 (depending on how far they are going) and usually back around 4:00pm. Trips are planned for the second and fourth Tuesday of each month March through November. Many of the riders say they look forward to these trips each month and are sad to see them stop for the winter.

Community Care Systems in Farmer City

Community Care Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce that Diane Cusey will be adding another day in Farmer City. Besides being at Outreach on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, she will be adding the 2nd Monday of each month from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.  She will be available  to anyone at the Caregivers Support Group as well as others if they are in need of assistance. This service will start May 14th. Mark your calendar so y don’t forget and remember, we all need a little help sometimes and there is no shame in asking for it.

Make it Take it

Outreach will be hosting a Make It Take It on September 8 at 9:00. Participants will be making a unique craft called Book Folding. This is done by using a hardcover book and folding the pages to form a 3D image. If you are interested in joining us give Sharon a call at Outreach 309-928-9400 to sign up. These books make wonderful gifts, so think Christmas, Birthday, etc.

Basket Binga

I know it is early, but the early bird catches the worm they say. Basket Binga 2018 will be  Oct. 13. This is a fundraiser for Outreach and enjoyed by all who participate. It is a fun filled afternoon so bring your family, friends, and neighbors. Lunch is provided by Two Reds BBQ of Mansfield. They offer some pretty awesome pulled pork, chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, and potato salad. Doors open at 11am for you to shop the vendors that are here to show off their wares and enjoy your lunch and visit as you get ready for some great Bingo. Winners receive Longaberger Baskets and we have some pretty awesome baskets this year so mark your calendar now so you won’t forget. More reminders and information will be in future newsletters.

Outreach Update

Oh my, summer is going by so fast; here it is the middle of July.

I would like to give you some dates to mark on your calendar so you don’t forget.

First is Basket Binga on Oct. 13 at the Joe Williams Post 55 American Legion.  Doors open at 11 for you to browse the many vendors on hand to start your Christmas shopping or maybe put you in the mood to Christmas shop.  Lunch is provided once again by Two Reds Bar B Q of Mansfield offering pulled pork or chicken with baked beans, potato salad or slaw as sides.

This is always a fun afternoon so grab your friends and family and come support Outreach.

The second date is December 15 which is our Christmas Shop.  We gather donations and buy gifts and toys for parents and legal guardians to shop for free for their children.  Children are to be ages 6 mos. to 12 years and must be living in the Blue Ridge School District. We work hard to provide something for the children so they have a memorable Holiday.  We keep the kids entertained by offering crafts in another part of the building while their parents “shop” for them.

If you feel you would like to help in some way by donating or with crafts that day or being a shopper just let Sharon know at 309-928-9400. More information to come on both of these events.
